Memorial Park Land Bridge and Prairie reconnects Houston’s urban landscape with a restored coastal prairie, addressing steep banks, poor soil quality and stormwater challenges. Using Profile Products’ Soil Solutions Software (PS3), the team identified depleted soils and validated ProGanics® Biotic Soil Media through a test plot before full-scale hydraulic application. Integrated with the GreenArmor® System—Futerra® R45 HP-TRM and Flexterra® HP-FGM®—the solution stabilized slopes, controlled erosion and improved stormwater management. More than 90 native species now vegetate the land bridge and surrounding prairie, creating a critical corridor that supports pollinators, birds and other wildlife.
Key Points
- Memorial Park faced steep banks, poor soil quality and an ecologically battered coastal prairie that required restoration and improved stormwater management.
- PS3 testing showed low organic matter of 0.6% plus poor cation exchange capacity and solvita respiration, leading the team to select ProGanics® Biotic Soil Media over other wood compost products.
- The GreenArmor® System combines ProGanics®, Futerra® R45 HP-TRM and Flexterra® HP-FGM® to secure seed and soil on steep banks, establish vegetation and enhance stormwater management.
- Soil tests showed a 116% increase in organic matter, 148% increase in cation exchange capacity, 423% increase in respiration, and notable rises in bacterial and fungal populations, supporting lush vegetation and long-term habitat restoration across more than 75 acres of coastal prairie.
