This chart outlines typical expected life cycles for major golf course components, showing approximate year ranges for greens, bunkers, irrigation systems, cart paths, tees, drainage elements, mulch and grass. Component life spans can vary based on course location, material quality, original installation and past maintenance practices, so course leaders are encouraged to work with their golf course architect, superintendents and others to assess their own facilities. Notes highlight factors such as accumulation of layers on greens, converting to new grasses, architectural changes, and opportunities to replace bunker drainage pipes when changing sand.

  • Greens: 15–30 years; bunker sand: 5–7 years.
  • Irrigation system: 10–30 years; irrigation control system: 10–15 years; PVC pipe (under pressure): 10–30 years; pump station: 15–20 years.
  • Cart paths – asphalt: 5–10 years (or longer); cart paths – concrete: 15–30 years; practice range tees: 5–10 years; tees: 15–20 years.
