Camelback Golf Club Case Study

A scenic golf course with sand bunkers, green fairways, and distant houses, set against a backdrop of large, sunlit mountains and a partly cloudy blue sky.

The Ambiente Course at the JW Marriott Camelback Golf Club underwent a major renovation to transform the former Indian Bend course into a flagship, high-end property while addressing its location on an Army Corps of Engineers flood plain and desert wash. Profile Products worked closely with the architect, builder and contractor from early planning through completion, recommending solutions to stabilize slopes, promote vegetation and enhance the rootzone mix. Terra Wood™ and Profile Porous Ceramics—Greens Grade supported fast establishment of Bermudagrass, native grasses and Wildflower areas, helping deliver exceptional first-year greens and keeping the project on schedule despite flood risks.

Key Points

  • Course sits atop a desert wash and is subject to fast moving flood waters, with holes repositioned to better account for the flood plain cutting through the course.
  • Profile Terra-Wood™ was used across the entire course, with fairways hydrosprigged with Bermudagrass and perimeter areas hydroseeded with native grasses and a Wildflower mix.
  • Profile Porous Ceramics—Greens Grade was incorporated at a 10% rate in a 90/10 sand/Profile root zone blend, contributing to putting greens described as “exceptional for a first year course.”
  • Vegetation established quickly, preventing washouts during a significant rainfall event and providing accelerated seed establishment and rooting with no disruption to the project schedule.
